Marshmallow Challenge:
We began our morning with a fun and intense competition. For those of you who have never heard of it, the main objective is for teams of four to build the tallest freestanding structure using twenty sticks of dry spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and a marshmallow, which must be on the very top of the structure. After an intense 18 minutes, this was the winning structure:
Leadership Chat with Ian Chang:
One of the highlights from the day was a site visit to Boeing China, where we heard from VP Ian Chang. A captivating speaker, he provided us with many insights about what he has learned from his life experiences. He emphasized that a career is different from a job, and talked about the importance of performance, passion, and setting goals for your career.
UW Alumni Dinners:
We also had the unique opportunity to meet and have dinner with UW alumni who were all currently working in Beijing.
Xin Ray, an incoming freshman, met with Dr. Andy Wang. Here is what she has to say about the experience:
"Dr. Wang shared his experiences of how he got his medical degree at UW and continued to work in Seattle before coming to Beijing. He shared many of his ups and downs, but the biggest takeaway I got from him was, “Don’t just stay in the libraries. Go out. Have fun. Even if you mess up, it’s okay."
Rosie, another incoming freshman, was also inspired by her alumni dinner experience. Here is what she has to say:
"I am more than honored to learn from the UW alumni and get a glance of their ways of developing their own career. These are things that people spent years to practice and I'm glad to learn it before I officially enter college."
Thank you to all the UW Alumni who took time out of their day to share this experience with us!
